According to Rasmussen & Anderton 2005 Birds of South Asia, poonensis is paler and browner above than nominate, has deeper bill and mostly pale lower mandible, more mottled throat, breast and flanks, less contrastingly white spectacles and throat. This individual really shows some of these characters.
