Myrskylintuja Huippuvuorilla / Northern Fulmars in Svalbard

Myrskylintujen värissä on paljon vaihtelua, joka on osittain maantieteellistä ja osittain yksilöllistä. Atlantilla tummimmat linnut elävät pohjoisessa, mutta toisaalta jotkin pohjoisetkin populaatiot ovat joko välimuotoisia tai lähinnä vaaleita (näin sanoo esim. Vaurie 1965, The Birds of the Palearctic Fauna). Alla on esitelty valokuvien avulla myrskylintujen vaihtelua Huippuvuorilla. Kuvat on otettu kesäkuun puolivälissä 2009 Isfjordenin ja pohjoisrannikon välillä, ja ovat melko satunnainen valikoima.

There is a lot of variation in the plumage of Northern Fulmar. Part of the variation is individual, the rest geographical. In the Atlantic, the darkest birds live in the north, but even some northern populations may be intermediate or pale (according to e.g. Vaurie 1965, The Birds of the Palearctic Fauna). The photographs below depict the individual variation of Svalbard Fulmars. They were taken between Isfjorden and the north coast, in mid June 2009, and represent a fairly random sample.
